  • Week One: Romans 1

    • What IS the Gospel?
    • What does Paul mean by "I am not ashamed of the Gospel?"
    • Why can we conclude that we all need the Gospel based on the last half of Romans 1?

  • Week Two:Romans 2

    • In what ways am I judging God (that He is not enough)?
    • In what ways am I judging others rather than modeling the Spirit that leads us to repentance?
    • What was a time where the stick (judgement) was brought upon me and how did I feel?
    • What was a time where the fruit (grace/kindness leading to repentance) was brought to me and how did I feel?

  • Week Three: Romans 3

    • How does the following quote make you feel? "Jesus became what we are so that we can become what He is."
    • Is my day to day life reflecting the Gospel in me?
    • Am I seeking to be transformed?

  • Week Four: Romans 4

    • Why do you think Paul chooses to use Abraham as an example of justification by faith?
    • Where does verse 3 come from? (Genesis 15:6)  What does it mean to be credited as righteous?  How can someone's faith make them be credited as righteous? How do we know Abraham believed God? In what ways did he demonstrate his faith? What then does it mean to "believe"?
    • List out some of the "leaps of faith" that Abraham took.  Are you willing to make the same leaps of faith and entrust yourself to God?  Do you believe the promises God makes to us?  Can you think of one area of your life right now that you need to take a leap of faith?

  • Week Five:

    Romans 5

    • Consider Abraham in Romans 4. What connection do you see between the progression in Romans 5:3-4 (trials>>perseverance>>character strengthened>>confident, joyful hope) and his extravagant faith (obedient trust)?  In what or whom was his faith?

    • In what specific area of your life could you choose to

    participate in this same

    progression with extravagant faith?

    • Read Romans 6:6-11.  What is the very reason that God sent Jesus to give us this free gift we don’t deserve—a right relationship with God?  How does that make you feel?

    • In what specific ways can you choose to REJOICE in your “wonderful new relationship with God”?  What does that look like in your everyday life?

  • Week Six:

    Romans 6

    1. How is the need to die to our self in order to have life connected in the death and resurrection of Jesus?

    2. Thinking back to Abram in Genesis being credited as righteous because of his belief, what do you think is the significance of Paul(v.11) using the same word 'consider/credit/reckon' in considering ourselves to be dead to the power of din and alive to God through Christ Jesus?

    3. What are the results of being a slave to sin compared to being a slave to righteousness?

    4. According to verse 17, where does real obedience come from? How does it play itself out in our every day lives?

  • Week Seven:

    Romans 7

    1. How do I/we understand our own sinfulness in the light of Jesus' sacrifice and gift of freedom? Does that understanding create rebellion in me/us that leads to death, or does it create humility that leads to life?

    2. In John 20, Mary doesn't recognize Jesus because she does not have an expectation that it could be him. When in our lives are we possibly not aware of the presence of Jesus because we do not have an expectation that He is there?

  • Week Eight:

    2. What things work out for a believer's good? Does this verse mean nothing bad ever happens to a believer? What does it mean for love to be at the core of good?

    3. Verse 31 says, "What, then shall we say in response to these things?"...What is your answer, how does that manifest in your own life?

  • Week Nine:

    Romans 9

    1. Consider Paul's statements about his fellow Jews who have rejected Christ in 9:1-3. How grieved are you about the people in your life who have rejected or not chosen Christ yet? Take some time to name a specific person and pray not only for them to recognize Jesus as their Savior, but also Jesus to help your heart to be stirred to the intensity Paul had for others to know Christ.

    2. What spiritual blessings that God has placed in our lives have WE missed out on because of our stubbornness t do things God's way? (verses 4-5, 31-32) How can we make sure we don't miss out on them?

    3. We believe that God chose ALL of us first. He made a way for ALL of us to know Him. How do you see the heart of love He has for us reflected in the design pattern in scripture that He chooses the unlikely, unloveable, unexpected? Who can be made right with Him by faith alone?

    4. Discuss what it means for Christ to have already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. What was God after all the time?
